Supernatural: The Magnificent Seven

The boys are back! SQUEEE! And they had one hellish set of opponents this episode: The Seven Deadly Sins. This could get complicated, as Dean seems to embody at least a couple of them. But Dean? He's not much worried about anything right now. He's just concentrating on having as much fun as physically possible -- threesomes, driving fast, eating bacon double cheeseburgers for breakfast -- in his last year of life. Surprisingly, Sam is letting him get away with it, even supporting it. That can't be a good idea, Sam.

But Sam's distracted -- he's going through every book he can get his hands on to figure out how to break Dean's deal. Good luck with that, Sam!

We LOVED seeing Bobby again, and liked the Hunter pair of Isaac and Tamara (although they really can't blame the Winchesters for the Devil's Gate.) We were, we must admit, slightly disappointed by the Seven Deadlies -- we were hoping they would last more than one episode, you know? They're demonic royalty, so we expected them top put up more of a fight.

Still, the demon Pride pretty much kicked ass -- we liked him almost as much as the Yellow-Eyed Demon of yore. And he had some interesting things to say about Sammy. Seems like not everyone in Hell was lining up behind the YED's plan. So now there are some peevish beasties out on the town, and nothing is holding them back from Sam -- except, perhaps, a certain blond girl...

We're intrigued by our mystery girl (and yes, we know her name, but we're now gun-shy about spoilers), and want to know more about her. Is she a Hunter? A demon? A force for good or evil?

We were also intrigued by Dean -- how was he able to shrug off Lust's influence? Is he immune from demon intervention? If so, that may make it difficult for the Crossroads Demon to collect on her deal...

What did you think? Did the season premiere rock your world, or were you left wanting more? How awesome was Bobby? What did you like most -- the fights, the gore, the snark, the bonding? Vote in our polls, and share your thoughts in the comments!

it was pretty good but compared to some of the other season premeires they've had, i personally feel the writers could have done a better job writing what we all got so worked up about for the last three or four months, or however long it was.

Recap - Yes

Dean with longer hair - Yes

Dean's reaction - Yes, but overplayed (typical Kripke)

Ruby/Buffy - No

Demon killing knife - No

The actress playing Tamara - No

Sam not holding his own in a fight - No

Brother/Brother interaction - No

Rushed, boring, crowded, charicatured and not at all the Supernatural I want to watch.

I was so glad to get the boys back. Yeah the episode wasn't the greatest but it was still pretty good. It had hatless Bobby, Snarky Dean, Brooding-yet-awesome Sammy. I didn't really like Ruby and the magical knife thing but I'll wait to make any final opinions, because Kripke has always delivered a good story arc.

I got my dad and one of my brothers hooked on SPN over the summer. However my other brother was more... reluctant.. but he decided to watch the premiere... away from my friends and I being overly excited of course... and he took all my SPN dvd's and started to watch.

All in all, I know this has been said so much it's redundant, I liked the episode and can't wait to see what's going to happen this season.

I tuned in to the premiere to see some show masquerading as Supernatural. That was not my show. I don't know what that was.

I agree that Dean was too out of character. Sam really didn't seem like he had much to do, did he? Then he needed saving by some outside entity. Jo 2.0 now in slo-mo, no less. LMAO. The hell?

Way WAY too many other people crowding the screen for a season opener.

I thought the Winchesters were the heroes of this story.

It just felt all wrong.

Well, I cannot miss any episode. You know, the most I like in Supernatural is the combination of Dean courage and Sam intelligence, which one leads to the other, together with a superb will of fighting the evil thing.

Than, those family matters and the way they deal with all paranormal efects on their Human behavior.

Finally, Dean and Sam young dress style, the way they live breaking modern society rules with no stress or drama, and of course, the Impala which makes me dream...

I love this episode!

I thought it was boring.

Dean was out of character. Sam was practically non-existent. Heck, both boys were entirely too bland in the season premiere of THEIR SHOW, with too many other characters crowding the scene. Blondie was so laughable.

Show, the ramp to the shark jump is that way. You seem to be lined up perfectly.

I don't think that was an episode of SPN, I think it was the shell of the show possessed by a deadly demon called Mediocrity.

For all those of you who love Sam and Dean we hardly saw them and when we did they were clones. Dean was made fun of and it was nasty, Sam was drippy.

Jared and Jensen may be hot but I watch for the story of two brothers on the road, not loads of other hunters and silly chicks.

Hope the next episode has been exorcized!

i love supernatural and i thought that this was the perfect way to start the 3rd season. i love that the boys are back especially jensen ackles i love him he is so hot. jared is good looking too but jensen is smooking hot i dont think that there is a bad bone in his body.

thank god supernatural is back i have something to look forward to in the week.

LOVE THE EPI!!!
it was awesome!!!

love especially the fight scenes, the scene the girl was killed, love bobby, sam was sammy...nothing new except he doesn't roll his eyes in the beginning...i hope he turns bad or something...and last but not least Dean, is more funny and fresh...love that old "new attitude" kil some evil sons of b****** and rise a little hell »» that rocks! i laugh the entire epi, especially in dean scenes.

Love from Portugal!

P.S: the new opening of Super Rocks!!

The Winchester boys are back! I truly enjoyed the premiere and I can't wait to see what season 3 has in store for us. I have no doubt it's going to be one amazing ride!

Well, everyone is going to have different opinions about different episodes. I know that it DID seem different to me, but not necessarily bad!
Hopefully the next episode will convince everyone (including me) once and for all that this is our Supernatural that has returned and not some other show.

Dean is not acting like that, especially given it was 5 days ago that he was begging Bobby to not tell Sam, as another poster mentioned below. There is absolutely no connection between this Dean and the Dean we saw in the last episode. Dean, the real Dean as opposed to this Pod Person they are trying to say is Dean, would not throw that kind of guilt into Sam's face, no matter what he was going through. He has, in fact, shown himself to dislike any kind of overt pity or feeling sorry for him.

I don't think Dean was trying to get pity out of Sam. Sam has been treating Dean with kid gloves, afraid to say something wrong, letting Dean do what Dean wanted him to do. Dean played on it expecting Sam to finally break and call him on it, which Sam did, and Dean replied to. So, no, Dean wasn't trying to get pity, but trying to make Sam stop treating him "special".

As for Dean not being Dean, I have to disagree. Dean played hardnose to get to Sam, and succeeded. Dean also showed himself the capable hunter and ruthless killer of evil he's always been. I enjoyed seeing capable and smart hunter Dean again.

As for Ruby, I think she should be treated like perfume, used sparingly so we get the merest of scents, but not so overpowering that she overshadows the boys, and, unfortunately, it does seem that both Ruby and Bela will be spilled out in more than necessary roles.

I'll wait and see. The premiere was good, but a bit underwhelming. Maybe things will improve. I hope so. I'd hate to see this show lose it's one major unique quality, the dynamics between Sam and Dean and the story of two brothers on one journey.

I Loved the episode.
The quotes of Dean are perfect.
Portugal is waiting for the new season.

Heidi - if you think Jensen and Jared are being done any favors by sharing starring status with a newbie who can't act her way out of a paper bag ....
be careful what you wish for, boys! More time off might be permanent if there's no Season 4. And how would it look for them as actors if Season 3 continues to be a turkey?

I don't blame the boys at all of course as I've seen the work they've done in Supernatural and it's absolutely stellar, but someone has steered this show into very mediocre waters.
I din't sign up for Buffy, I want the story about the Winchester brothers to continue without souless Dean and boy-king Sam. Seems to me they might even split them up this season from the hints about a girl each. I can't believe the stupidity of it because it's Jensen and Jared as Dean and Sam that made this show a cult fave and now that's being dumped and they're trying to coast on the work the boys have done with a CGI chick (because she weighs too little to actually fight?) Whatever. Since when did this show want to be Smallville?
Maybe since trying to get new teen fans (see the new 'previously' which is a crock of crap) meant more than keeping faith with the fans who sang the praises of the story of the Winchesters everywhere.
Thanks for the kick in the teeth, Kripke.

This demon king story line is completely uninteresting to me. I fear the show has lost its way.

"Falling back to info in my med/psych classes, the reactions of both Sam and Dean are classic examples of what happens when someone in the family is diagnosed with a terminal illness: survivor’s guilt and terminal patient reactions. "

That might work if Dean was a terminal patient. Dean is emphatically not a terminal patient. Dean is not dying. Dean has an expectation of dying on a certain in a year.

Unlike a terminal illness, Dean chose his date of death. This is not something foisted upon him against his wishes. He is going to his death, willingly, for someone he loves more than life itself, his brother.

It's wildly out of character for Dean and they should not be using this deal to completely retcon the character's motivations and personality by turning him into some sort of shallow caricature of his former self.

I thought the episode was brilliant and well worth waiting for. The best bits, as always, are the scenes between the boys, whether or not they actually have any lines. Sometimes just the looking is enough. I especially loved the scene where Sam finally tells Dean enough is enough - where he's sick of the whole thing, and can't understand why Dean made the deal he did. Anyway, I wrote a review on pinkraygun.com, if that's okay to mention here.

This didn't feel like a Supernatural episode. It felt like the first episode of a show I never would have watched in the first place if I'd know what it was going to be. Like they stripped the show of all the traits that made it unique, special and gave it that charm that was all it's own and turned it into something else, on the Network's say so most likely. I think Jensen tried but they gave him nothing but caricature to work with as Dean, like all the complexity was stripped and really I felt like Sam was a near non-entity, he was there but...that's about all I can say about him, which I suppose is better than what they did to Dean.

As for the spoiler stuff, which I have also seen. Ruby isn't Jo 2.0, she's far far worse.

First off i'd like to say im so glad its back....and i think its sooooo cool how supernatural already has this many comments lol.

another great episode...i swear im never dissapointed in what they do for all of us each week.

everything was good and you can tell that its only gonna get better and i can't wait for next week

sooo everthing was great and more than i epected!!!! (as usual)

as for the NEW girl
to be honest i wasn't worried because i knew SN wouldn't do anything stupid or something i wouldn't like but she kicked ass i loved her i can't wait for more

I LOVE SUPERNATURAL AND I HOPE IT STAYS ON FOR A LONG TIME IT SO DIFFERENT AND PERFECCT OR AT LEAST DAMN NEAR------!!!!!!!

NO OTHER SHOW COULD BE AS GOOD AS THIS NOT ONE

PLUS ITS SCARY AS HELL

I think that we need to give these two girls an honest chance. Kripke already stated several times that they're being careful to not repeat the Jo incident. If you truely love Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki you'll give these girls a chance. These actors can't be expected to go on filming these crazy hours for several seasons. One of them is eventually going to crack. By introducing these new characters and making Bobby a regular, they're easing up on the ridiculous hours that our boys are dedicated to. I think we owe it to Dean and Sam to give these girls a chance.

What an exciting premiere. Smashing someone into a windshield over a pair of green pumps--how awesomely Supernatural. :) I could have done without the exposition fairy, but that's probably inevitable when a show changes direction. What can I say? I like the new direction. I like that the brothers are allowed to be fleshed out and fully human. That silent moment when they were oiling and cleaning the guns....that look between them....it's so Dean and Sam. Their bond will bend, but it won't break. I didn't mind Dean's behavior one bit. Yes, only having a year to live is an excuse to be mean and snippy if you're FACING ETERNAL DAMNATION. Dean isn't some heroic Dudley DoRight and thank God for that. He's a human being; he's scared to death and on top of it all, he has to keep Sam from trying to save him. It's a wonder Dean doesn't snap into pieces.

A great effort for the season opener. I think I'll like Ruby. Bitchy chicks can be a hoot and I've read a spoiler or two myself. I think they've chosen the right direction. Thumbs up.

Mousita - things might not be how they appear to be, in fact they might be worse. Don't pull the spoiler card on people, plenty are way spoiled and still freaking out. You might say wait and see, I say we might wait and wait and wait ....

Sam - this epiosde didn't give me any brotherly moments at all, not like the show used to. There was a bit of banter and a discussion at the end but it seemd 'off' and perfunctory and not with any real heart and soul to it. Even the bit with the candles was lame - it felt forced like we must have the obligatory Winchester moment but with out any actual connection and interplay.

I also thought Jensen and Jared weren't nearly as convincing as usual and that's hard for me to say because i LOVE and admire them both.
This show better course-correct and quick!

Because I see great concern over Ruby, allow me to say one thing: things are not what they appear to be and some things are as they are for a reason! I am a total spoiler-freak and spoiled rotten... seeing where Ruby is currently heading there is no doubt that Ruby is NOT Jo 2.0 (And that's all I will say about that out of respect to the spoiler-phobes.)

It does appear that they are trying to take some of the work load of Jensen & Jared by interweaving other characters in. Although it feels uncomfortable for us who have grown to love having SN be all about the boys (as season 1 was), other characters can interact as long as they remain in the background and completely secondary. If ANY character pulls another No Exit, there will be fandom revolution without a doubt. I believe the good folks at SN are aware of this, and will be very careful to steer clear of it.

So buckle up tight... there are some amazing twists and turns coming up on this ride! Bring it on!!

I thought they did a decent job with this episode. It definitely wasn't the best I've ever seen or even remotely close to the best, but I still enjoyed it. I was hoping that they would go deeper into explaining and portraying the seven deadly sins but they really didn't have time.
I can also understand where they're going with Dean, I just wish that they would find a more subtle way of going about it. But I'm ecstatic that the season has started and I'm hoping for some really great episodes this year.

:/
While it was...different...than other episodes, TheStocks, how can you tell me you saw no brother bonding? The banter this epi was amazing! And Ruby was only one for THREE minutes! Barely! Can you honestly judge how a character is going to go by just that? Bela could become successful, too. I wasn't happy about Ruby coming on the show but I liked her.
Not to mention the acting - Jensen and Jared and Jim Beaver were excellent, as were the guest characters (Pride! I mean, come on!).

wow.....definatly not the best episode i've seen....not even remotely close. espically for a season premiere....it was pretty disappointing.

Dean's acting like a jerk(and don't give me "he only has a year to live, he deserves it!" because no one "deserves" to treat people like crap) and Sam looks like an amature after Barbie Buffy comes in and slices and dices like it's nothing with those LAME excuses for demons(they were really not scary at all. how the hell was Lust supposed to be scary?? she didn't do ANYTHING!).

it took John Winchester 23 years to hunt down the YED and he didn't even kill him, Dean did, with the Colt....but it takes 20 seconds for this chick with a special knife(sytche from Season 7 of Buffy, anyone??) to take out 3 or 4 demons?? and don't even get me STARTED on the "holy wood from Peru". these guys are supposed to be really good hunters. hell, their dad was KNOWN for being a great hunter, but now they've no idea about holy wood from Peru(*rolls eyes*) or some special knife that kills demons?? i'm sorry, i don't buy it.

this show better pick up the pace. and get rid of Buffy, she had her own show and it's over with now. we don't need a fake one to come back and try and steal the main character's thunder.

I was a little disappointed with this episode. I was just expecting a little bit more for a season premiere. I think maybe we were just spoiled last year with In My Time Of Dying being such an amazing episode. This episode would have been better later on in the season as a standalone episode, but as a season opener I think we were expecting more.

I'm so glad the characters are being allowed to change and grow and not stagnate. I really enjoyed this episode. No, it wasn't IMTOD but that will probably prove to be the quintessential, classic SN episode.

What impressed most was Dean and Sam. Sam's a full fledged character now who's as much the heart of the show as Dean. I feel for Sam so much. Dean's off kilter behavior will provide grist for the mill and drive storyline as a progressively angrier Sam inevitably defies him to try and find a solution. That's exciting. Of course Dean was a jerk. Wouldn't anyone be under enormous stress if they were facing hellfire? It's only been five days since Sam died. Give Dean a break. I love it that he said straight out that yes, the deal was selfish and no, he wasn't sorry, because he isn't. If Dean allows himself to be sorry and to consider the enormity of Sam's emotions--he's had it. Dean has to get Sam to let go of him. Keeping Sam alive is IT for Dean. Same old Dean, a bit off putting and jarring, but it's the same Dean we've known and loved.

Thank you, PTB, for allowing Dean and Sam to be more than One Tree Hill dreamy wannabes who only act one particular way. That's so dull. I like these characters much better. :)

Yea Loved The New Sign And The Hell Bells Song They Added At The Beging

I liked the episode. It was great except for 2 things: Ruby and they killed the 7 deadly sins tooo too fast. I mean come on THEY R THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS!!!!
People have mentioned this before but IT REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY PISSED ME OFF THAT THEY HAD THE NERVE TO ADD KATIE FREAKIN CASSIDY'S NAME RIGHT AFTER JENSEN AND JARED'S. SHE WAS IN THE FLIPPIN EPISODE FOR LIKE 3 MINUTES!!! Okay, i just had to get that off my chest.
I just wish Kripke would go back to the way season 1 was that was the best season for me. The idea that season 1 had was great, 2 brothers on a road trip killing evil bastards that is what drew me to the show and now slowly that seems to be dissolving away. I was watching season one and season 2 the other night and i see how the show that i absolutely luv is changing. I mean i luved season 2 it was awsome but i still don't think it competes with season one. And now i don't think season 3 will either. BUT i have faith that kripke knows what he is doing, at least i hope. I luv the boys i luv the show and i don't want it to die b/c people don't watch it anymore. I do have to say, though, that next weeks episode looks awsome. The promo gave me goosebumps.
P.S. Not looking forward to more episodes with those Buffy/Faith wannabes

I can't wait for more new sn!

I hope Dean is not going to stay this annoying and unsympathetic. He's my favorite character but I found it hard to remember why during the premiere.

The new girl was fine.

Usually I don't crash myself into a rambling because that's what it becomes - a rambling.

What can I say? I agree with MOST of the other fans.

Here we go...

DEAN - Dude, I love the guy. His lines always add heaps to an episode and I am looking forward to seeing him being all angsty and dealing with the 'deal' and what-not. Love the whole 'I'm tired', it was a little Croatoan but I loved that ep, anyway! He can whore-off for all I care, keep it humorous though.

SAM - What can I say? I love the puppy! I love his little brother emotion. Where he's feeling Dean's pain over the sacrifice.

BOBBY - Much like everyone else I love him. NO HAT?! :o No way, Bobby's hot. While I think making him a guest star is wise for the brotherly relationship, we need more Bobby this season. Jo stole Bobby's eps last season! YAY for Bobby.

RUBY - No. Save her till the end.

TAMARA/ISAAC - I liked Tamara. I thought the hunters as a couple was...I don't know... For Isaac, I wasn't expecting his death as it seemed too easy for hunters that I thought were so experienced. They walked into the Sins' trap too easily. This tells me T&I weren't intending to return but judging by the fan's taking to Tamara, she probably will.

SINS - I really loved the hunt. It definitely was rushed though. I mean, was I the only one that didn't hear each of the Sins identified? Guh...

RUBY - You can tell a lot about this season and the characters from her appearance. At least you can tell the direction Kripke's heading in. I think my whole review and thoughts of the Season Premiere come down to Ruby's appearance. I knew this when I first heard spoilers.

So, to me (and maybe I'm wrong) it feels like Kripke's a little intimidated by the fans. I know we're protective because the first season was PERFECT and blah blah blah. I think now he's making the show to PLEASE the fans. Like he's trying to hard to make it successful that he's not making it Supernatural. I don't know but to me this ep screamed of weariness and elements aside what Supernatural represents.

I don't know.
It's still my favourite show and I don't think I could ever cease my obsession with it but it's a surprise to look back and see what I fell in love with and then the direction it's heading in.

For Kripke, I just ask for some 'scariness' back. Show us the real Winchesters. Not the freakin' Charmed sisters, by the way. (I agree with the poster who said this)

In conclusion, finally, I did enjoy the episode and am sure I'll still love this season. See you next week, hey?!

What an amazing season premiere! The scene where the three demons cornered Sam was SO scary. The new blonde girl is interesting. I loved how she kept disappearing on Sam. Wow, her dagger is awesome. That could really be useful in the future. I'm glad Sam called Dean on the way he was acting at the end, and I hope Dean can get his act together! I know he's pretty screwed up right now, but he needs to be careful not to hurt Sam.

I really liked Tamara and I hope they bring her back. Bobby was AWESOME! "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son." BWAHAHA! :D

Can't wait to see what happens next!

So glad to have this brilliant show back and strong as ever!!!

I was let down with this one. It'll be one of those that doesn't get re-watched much. The whole story seemed very rushed. Dealing with all 7 of the Deadly Sins should have taken AT LEAST 2 episodes. There was so much they could have done with them and didn't. Especially since we also met not one but 3 new hunters, none of which overly impressed me. The demon killing knife was cool. The boys didn't seem at all themselves, no real tension or even emotion. The only part of this episode that stood out was Bobby. Jim Beaver gave a GREAT performance and had some wonderful lines. If they ever kill off Bobby, I will hunt down Kripke myself and hurt him. I love him almost as much as Dean and Sam. Oh, and the same goes for Ellen.

I still love Supernatural and can't wait to see the uber creepy kids next week. I would like more Winchester interaction. I love me some touching Dean and Sam moments. Sorry, my Texan came out there just a bit. :)

For all of you people complaining because this episode wasn't as good as 'In my Time of Dying', I agree... but common, they can't kill Daddy every season... haha it just wouldn't work... and I don't really want tos ee anyone else die either! I love sam and dean and I really like Bobby. Killing a main character is really the only way to acheive that kind of an episode...

I loved the episode... it was a great start, lot's of fun, which was what i had wanted.

I'm really glad the boys are back. They sure looked pretty in all that bright light. Jensen and Jared both gave their usual excellent performances.

I thought the season premier was pretty good but not nearly as kick-ass as it could have been.

There was lots of nice gore and some hysterically funny moments. I didn't hate the hunter couple but I thought they spent too much time on them. I also think I love Bobby better in much smaller doses.

It's going to take a bit more than a fancy knife fight for Ruby to impress me, but I'll wait and see where they go with her. I hope Lauren Cohan's Bela has more screen presence than Katie Cassidy has managed to give Ruby so far.

I really need to love at least one of the changes they're making this year because I'm also not too impressed with new mytharc storyline of Sam as some kind of potential Demon King. It's even lamer than the pychic kids network.

So yeah it was a solid episode overall but I'm not terribly happy with the tone and direction it seems to be pointing to for this season.

I have been thinking....

I am hoping that this is Kripkes idea of an April fools joke and we get the real premiere sans Deans stupidity next week.

Because all my pysch class aside...it was bad and exaggerated and just made me cringe.

I LOVE SPN, and this season premiere, I gotta admit, wasn't all it's cracked up to be. I liked it and all, but it felt a little flat and I dunno, too many characters or something. The dynamic was off.

I missed the Sam and Dean interactions. I like the boys being like the only characters on the show. Bobby is pretty freakin' awesome as well (and OH!BOBBY! With the suit and everything!) but there were too many other people in the show.I missed the 'Sam and Dean.' It might have been a combination of the characters and the villains *shrug* not sure.

Speaking of the villains, I was talking to someone and they thought that it would have made a LOT more sense to make the 7 deadly sins like a season long villain that they end of slaying one, every couple of episodes or something. I LOVE that idea, I mean the 7DS were great, but there was almost too much going on in this episode for one episode. It was just a little too fast and too much. I think a lot of that has to do with the amount of characters on the show.

I'm not sure how I feel about that Ruby girl, she's not bad, but I wish she wasn't blond and like the size of my pinkie. Why couldn't she be like some fiery red head who isn't the size of a stick? Or some girl who isn't a hollywood beauty. They seem to have a LOT of diversity on SPN, but I would really love to see one of the girls who could possibly become a love interest(You know in their heads they think we're gonna pair that Ruby girl with one of the boys) - so they have to pick someone super attractive and starlet-like girl - but in all reality a girl who has a little extra padding and hair color that doesn't come from a box might actually get a better reception. Bah, I just don't want to see more hollywood babes, I mean Dean already does enough of them to keep Clairol in business for the next 50 years...

Oh! And Ruby's knife? Wasn't that a huge giant obvious thing... It's a way out, and that's all that matters to me.

I dunno, the ep wasn't horrible, but I guess I expected more.

I'm still watching though. I LOVE THIS SHOW!

Well, I love Katie Cassidy and its really to soon to say her character is weird but i didn't like the sentence "I'm the girl who saved your ass" ... But ok maybe she will get better but she defently looks more like a dean girl for me. I loved Dean in this episode so funny but I hate him for being like "I will die in one year just because of you sammy" ... poor sam :-(

Why couldn't Envy or Gluttony break the Devil's Trap on the ceiling, but Pride could? Was it because he had two other demons with him? If so, I think they should've shown that it was a group effort.

I am pretty sick of Sam constantly being put in a choking headlock. Come on stunt coordinator! SOMETHING ELSE! He's 6'4'! Over 200lbs of muscle, and he is a GOOD FIGHTER! Don't let him continue to be taken out of the fight by just one guy! Make all three of the have to hold him down, at least! But of course it makes it worse that Ruby 'saved his ass.'

Not funny. Not 'kick ass'. Not needed. It was everything I had dreaded, right there. She's SO much better than the boys, she had to come in and SAVE Sam, AND she knows who he is, AND she has a magic demon killing blade. She wan't sweating, she wasn't out-of-breath, and of course her hair didn't even fall out of place. M-A-R-Y S-U-E!!!!!! I've seen her now Kripke & co., and I HATE HER! HATE HER! HATE HER! Pull the rest of her appearances RIGHT NOW!

The thing I am really EXTRA dreading now though is that they are going to somehow include Sam in the 'you can't get Dean out of this deal' group and he WON'T be the one to save dean! SAM HAS TO SAVE DEAN! HE HAS TO! Otherwise the relationship never evens up. Sam never redeems himself. He doesn't fulfill the promise he made in AHBL2.

And I liked Sam's "If we're going down, we're going down together, and that's it." from the promo MUCH better than the "If we're going down, we're going down together, alright?" which they used in ep. Editor, wake up pal!

The writing was poor.
They killed the 7 sins too quickly.
Sam and Dean are shallow in this one. Dean, enough with the girls, we want real feelings.
Bobby was great!
Without him, this would have been a poor episode.
The girl that saved Sam wasn't needed. Hope the next one is better. I love supernatural.

I can't believe that anyone who loved the first two seasons of this show would think that the magnificent 7 was anything more than a sad attempt at keeping the network happy. More action, more kissing, more cleavage - so predictable.
Sam and Dean and their brother bond used to be so great to watch and I couldn't see it at all in the premiere. It was a badly written, badly directed, badly acted crap-fest.
What have they done to Dean, why don't he and Sam look after each other like they normally do? This was too much action and not enough heart.
Kripke has taken the thirty pieces of silver alright.
Ruby is just awful and don't forget there's also Bela coming along to take the focus off the brothers. I'm very upset about my boys and worried about where this is headed.

I think this was one of the best Buffy episodes ever... So, when is Supernatural on?

-I like the new title card. The new font is going to take some getting used to, but I like the backgroundy thing. I can't describe it well, from memory, but yes. Just yay. :)

-Bobby is awesome. And I like Tamara - I figure she'll probably be coming back at some point. I mean, probably more of an Ellen frequency or Gordon frequency, versus the comparable Bobby frequency. I think that the accent might be a reason why I liked Tamara. I'm such a sucker for accents.

-On the topic of Bobby being awesome: I love how he is the voice of reason for Sam and Dean. I'm trying to decide if Sam wanting to just go into the bar and raise a little hell was the new!Sam [i.e. he isn't as cautious as he once was], or if it's just inexperience talking. I'd probably go with the latter, but still curious.

-OH, DEAN. Why am I *not surprised* that he made out with LUST before playing "hold your breath!" with her in the bathtub of holy water. I'm surprised he didn't try to bathe her. That could have been entertaining. [and, c'mon - hot chick in a wet white dress? Totally would have appealed to the demographic that the new females are supposed to appeal to.

-I actually don't hate Ruby. I think it might be because she wasn't in much of the episode. We'll see if that pattern holds. Although, seriously? Not impressed with the way that she saved Sam's ass with some magic knife. If she doesn't have the ability to kick ass without the help of magic tools, she'll get no love from me. And the flippy hair is annoying and distracting when she's fighting. I know I've said this with Sam before, but how does it not get in her eyes/get in the way? Pull it back or something - it would be good to see strands come loose as she's fighting and definitely preferable to seeing her Pretty Pretty Princess Hair flying about her.

-Speaking of hair: Sam's hair was much improved. I don't approve of your slacking on the whole "gee, I'm being followed by a skinny blonde!" thing. And, Dean, getting knocked on your ass by Isaac? Not cool. That was so easy, I'm embarrassed for you. If you don't pick it up a notch or two, I'll keep throwing your own words back in your face.

-Colors were great. Didn't catch any fancy directing tricks [no rack focus, flare, etc.], but Manners still wins at directing. For me, anyhow. :)

-In conclusion? I am EXCITED for this season. Let's bring on more supernatural baddies!

One of the best scenes is missing. Sam scaring Dean and Bobby in te car during the stakeout and then Sam pushing dean's seat so far foreward as he climbs in that Dean is squished against the dash. Loved Dean's expression and the genuine smile on Sam's face. A true sibling moment there.

it felt a bit rushed what with the need to acclimatize possible new viewers to canon, the brothers relationship and backgroud info. Felt a bit like the exposition from the pilot. The seven deadly sin demons could easily and probably should have been made into a two parter.

Ruby. Too early to make a decisive decision but less is more and I think our first intro to her SHOULD have been her following Sam and vanishing instead of the cliched coming out of the shadows to stare at the house. Introducing her later when she was following Sam would have been much more mysterious and (active) have given the viewer a more edge of their seast fear that something might happen to Sam and have us wondering Who the HEll is this girl and how did she just vanish liek that?

The Magificent 7 had some brilliant moments; loved, loved Bobby and his car! it just really fit him better then his Pick Up truck in ALl Hell Breaks Loose.

the one thing I really want to mention is that Supernatural has really stepped things up. Sam asking Bobby If they could win the war and Bobby's answering silence made for a tense scene. The world has opened up in an edgier, grittier way and the stakes are higher then ever.

Bring on the war!

I loved the first ep of the new season for SO many reasons! The humor was top notch, the classic tunes were there, the demons were nasty and funny, Sam and Dean had an awesome confrontation, Dean was in a wifebeater, a mysterious woman was tailing Sam, Bobby (in a suit) ruled the day, the gore was, well, gory, and SUPERNATURAL ROCKS!!! Love, Robin

I guess it was okay.. but not perfect. It was like this episode was just a teaser, becourse everything just happened too darn fast.

The guys did a great job and it is nice to finally see them in action again.

My favourite scene? Sam walking in on Dean. Poor sammy's face when he realises what he is seeing? HAHHAHAHA, great work Kripke! Great work.

Tamara kicked arse, I mean you gotta love her being a bit hysterical.

I have official become a Bobby!Girl. We finally get to see him in action. YAY.

I don't like Ruby. From what I have seen, she is waaaay too stereotype. Blonde perfect hair, heels... I'm surprised she did not break anything in the episode.

I'm not sure I like the idea about her or the other girl later in the show. It smells way too much of 'love interests' and I don't think that would be good for the show.

Anyway, the episode was so-so. Funny, but not great. I am looking forward to the next episode though..

As good as can be expected i guess; with the way season 2 ended. It was a tough act to follow.
The second episode seems more promising. Cant wait for it. Either way it is wonderful to see the winchesters on screen again.

I’m so thrilled that the BOYS ARE BACK! I loved the episode! Although I wouldn’t rate it a 10, it was still way above the average mark on the bell curve, easily an 8/10. It contained all the elements that we have come to love about this wonderful show: the hunt, scares, suspense, humor, and brotherly moments. And the last five minutes were totally worth the price of admission. I won’t comment on favorite lines or funny moments because these have already been covered by many others. But I will comment on the following:

THE HUNT: Great idea to deal with the Seven Deadly Sins, but one episode is not enough time to do this justice. So it felt a bit rushed.

BOBBY: loved having him here as the father-figure to keep the boys in check and grounded. I’m looking forward to all his appearances (although I don’t want to see him on every episode -- at some point in a majority of episodes we need to get back to the excellent formula of season one… the boys on the road, alone, with no one to rely on but each other.)

TAM/ISAAC: served their purpose for a one-story appearance. I’m sure there will be many other hunters we will be meeting in the same manner now that so many demons are on the loose.

RUBY: not enough presence to make a viable judgment on her yet. Not sure what Mr. Kripke was thinking with the cheesy “save” line from her and I’m surprised Mr. Manners decided to do the slo-mo in his directing, which belongs more on Heroes than SN. Maybe it was their way of making her look “cool” so that she goes over better with the hesitant fandom. But being a complete spoiler-junkie, I now know a bit more about her role. By knowing ‘THAT’ in the future, it will make her subsequent appearances very easy to handle since I know where it’s headed. So, no comment out of respect to those who do not wish to be spoiled. Let’s just say the original insinuation of ‘hunter-girlfriend’ that started the summer freak-out is now happily a moot point.

DEAN: to all those people who are jumping on Dean’s case right now, hating on him for not acting himself, you folks are missing an important psychological issue. Falling back to info in my med/psych classes, the reactions of both Sam and Dean are classic examples of what happens when someone in the family is diagnosed with a terminal illness: survivor’s guilt and terminal patient reactions. I expanded a bit on this on a blog I posted over on TV Guide (http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/Mousitsas-Blog/Supernatural-Magnificent-Seven/800023802) Just as the emotional issues of grief and loss over their father took several episodes to be developed, it will take time for Dean to realize the full impact that his deal is having on Sam. Give it time folks, just give it time!

I believe season 3 is off to a great start! We’re going to have a magnificent season in storytelling... now let’s get out there and make a dent in those ratings.

Sigh. I'm glad to have the boys back, Bobby rocked, the catfight over the shoes was awesome, but I think we get that Dean is a horny perv on death row. You don't have to remind me every five seconds. You can remind me every episode when he hooks up with a hot new fling.

I really liked Tamara, and wouldn't mind seeing her again. Between her, Isaac, the boys and the 7 demons, it felt like enough new blood for one episode. The intro to Ruby just seemed pointless here.

I'm glad they are introducing some women hunters, but let's get real. Ruby's leather jacket had a peplum. I don't buy a 90-lb. chick in heels and pretty clothes as a hunter. I want tough women. Solid ladies with scars who ride choppers and could intimidate our boys. (And out drink them.)

I feel like we're being force fed Jo version 2.0 and 2.1 this year. (And I thought it was a bad idea the first time around. Sorry.)

Overall, the first episode was fun, had some great one-liners, strong performances, and an interesting premise.

It was good, but it was no Nightshifter.

I was thoroughly underwehelmed. And that takes a lot. I've been a fan since Bloody Mary. I loved so many of the first season episodes. They rocked hard core with the urban legends and the mytharc for the boys - it was all so good. And honestly frightening. Second season was alright. It had plenty of terrifying episodes, and the ones that were pure levity (the episode with the Trickster made me laugh like woah) weren't so bad either - they were few and far between. But this? This? Oh, Show. What has happened to you? Dean is becoming a charicature of himself, there were too many plots that were all neatly wrapped up in one hour, and Ruby...gah...smells like Mary Sue. If the writers don't handle this carefully, the show could easily become a farce of itself. My sister put it best: "It's becoming like Charmed!" (which she loved). Charmed wasn't a bad show, but it's not the show I signed up for. It's not the show I saw in Bloody Mary or The Benders. It's not the show I saw in Heart. I'm hanging on to hope that Kripke knows what the hell he's doing, but it does seem a bit bleak.

I was very disappointed in this episode, especially considering how amazing "In My Time of Dying" was as last season's premiere.

I felt like this episode had none of the heart and soul that Supernatural usually has. The episode was almost all action and violence, with very little "deep" interaction between Dean and Sam. Even the scene at the end couldn't make up for that--usually Jensen and Jared are great, but I thought that the way they delivered their lines--too quickly and very casual--was off.

I was absolutely LIVID that Katie Cassidy's name was right after Jared and Jensen's--that is completely RIDICULOUS. It's always been the two boys, and then the guest stars. And to put Cassidy, who was only in 5 minutes of the episode, before guest stars such as Jim Beaver (Bobby), was extremely inappropriate. It completely disgusted me, ugh.

U was sadly disappointed with this episode, especially for a season premiere. IMYTOD was SO much better, sigh; Dean's reactions, even taking into consideration that it's still so soon after selling his soul, were so annoying and over the top that it just seemed to negate the lovely, angsty work Jensen did last season; and I was completely unimpressed with the seven deadly sins storyline. Too much potential that went absolutely nowhere, and for such supposed 'badasses' they were awfully easy to vanquish. I waited all summer with such high hopes for a killer, rocking season premiere and was left feeling terribly let down. Sam was the only redeeming thing about the whole episode; thank God HE was still on target and wonderfully in character and lent at least some semblance of depth and color to this horribly bland episode. And one final gripe--last season Dean was so anxious that Sam not be made to feel guilty for Dean's choice, he even begged Bobby out in Bobby's junkyard not to tell Sam about the deal with the demon; yet here in season three, ostensibly mere days later, Dean is callously playing the guilt card against Sam and I just don't think Dean would do that, even if he was trying to distance himself from his deal and maybe alienate Sam just to keep him from trying so hard to save his brother. For me that aspect of Dean's behavior couldn't be adequately explained or justified by some lame PTSD excuse.

Where. Is. Ellen?

I repeat.

Where. The hell. Is Ellen?

Blondie sucked as a deus ex machina, and as a character, I'm more interested in Bobby's new car than her. And magic knife instead of magic gun. Ooo, yay.

Tamara kicked ass and needs, seriously, NEEDS to come back. On either side of the fence about the Winchesters, I don't care. She's as awesome as Ellen.

Which I guess means we'll never see her again.

And since Dean's been worked over already, I'll refrain from comment except to add a resounding WTF??? about him using the deal to emotionally manipulate Sam.

I loved the premiere, by the way, I'm just nitpicking.

Not too bad. Heroes premiere last week got me in the mood for this. Like that series, also for Supernatural a new chapter has just started so I wasn't expecting something epic like IMTOD (best season premiere ever *o*) but something more 'quiet', made for catching up with last season and setting up some more premises for this one. And I had it.
The only thing that pissed me off was how fast the got rid of the Sins all together. Damn, they're supposed to be more powerful than that -_-
I LOVED Dean's attitude. Mind, not Dean, because I know he was a jerk to act like that...But it felt right.
Repeating it over and over like he was trying to convince both himself and Sam, and at the end "With all I've done for this family, I think I'm entitled." *_*
Plus, after all the angst of last season it was good to have the old Dean back.
They can save the drama for later (and I'm a sucker for drama, but I don't like when they abuse of it) ^_-
I'd say...A 8/10. Liked it more than the Pilot - at least it made me smile :P -and less than IMTOD.

Was it just me or was Dean obnoxious this week?

Just me? That's cool.

I'm hoping things shape up for next week or I'm going to have to officially boot Supernatural out of my favorite show slot and into SECOND favorite, after Heroes.

Well, aside from wanting to jump through the screen and kick Dean in the nuts for being such a jackass, I would say it was pretty good. I would have liked to have seen a little more detail with the 7 Deadly Sins though. While it was good, this one definitely didn't come anywhere close to last season's premiere.

The episode wasn't great by any means. It was entirely too bright for starters, what happened to the styleized look of the show from the first two seasons? The wash to make it appear darka nd dreary added a lot to the show.

The characters in some aspects seemed parodies of themselves and the whole thing seemed a bit rushed.

Ruby isn't bad but while it's still too soon to tell she isn't great either. Her whole intro and the SFX for that whole scene SCREAMED Blade:Trinity and Abigail Whistler. I think my issues with the character may be the actress as she doesn't come across as kickass at all. I'd honestly be more excited to see her again had maybe Caroline Chikezie (The lady playing Tamara) played her instead.

I loved that each episode before made me think of the old crappy horror movies from the 80s and 90s yet this time I was just reminded of some of the more recent horror crap. The show looks like it got a bigger budget and while it may have been necessary don't fix what wasn't broken.

I was a bit disappointed with the episode last night. It seemed too rushed, espicially for the Sins. I mean come on, they're like the Top demons in hell, and they were defeated in 10 minutes? Riiight. I wished they had develed deeper into the demons.

Loved Tamara, Bobby, Sam and Dean. I really hope we see Tamara again in future eppys she rocked hard!!

As for Ruby, well she was only on for a very short time so it's hard to make judgement but her introduction throughout this eppy was so choppy. Espicially when she "saved" -grumble- Sam. What the hell was with her leaving after five seconds? That's just bad writing to me.

And I agree Linda, I was pissed about her name being in third in the credits too. That spells trouble.

It was a little disappointing, after the season 2 premier which totally rocked. But, it was still good because Dean and Sam are back. And Bobby's with them. I love Bobby. The presence of the hunting couple kinda ruined it and not being a Katie Cassidy fan definetly didn't help with her appearance. But, it was good. It could have been a little more out there, with lots more happening. But, we saw lots of Dean and Sam, that's all the matters. And again, Bobby's a regular now. So we can be sure to see lots more of him. :)

I liked the new epi, it wasn't my favorite...but, hey, the next one seems like it'll be mad scary, eh?
I was very happy with Cassidy thus far, but she was only in, what, three minutes? I'll give it some time.
Something did seem different about this episode, and it made me a bit sad.

Oh, and I loved Bobby. He rocked my socks beyond words.

I second the "Send this clown back" post. Man, that line was awesomely delivered!

Wow, I was pretty underwhelmed, and I've been a fan since the beginning.

Everyone thinks that Dean was being such a jerk in this episode. I saw Dean being Dean... just with a little more exaggeration. I don't think people understand that this is Dean's way of hiding the true feelings he has. ;)

I loved the episode and I have full faith that Kripke and the gang will blow us away with this season.

Awsome!!! Loved every second of it. I have now watched it several times. I REALLY can't wait for next week. Dean has had the weight of the world lifted off of his shoulders, while poor Sam has had the world dumped on his. Bobby was perfect as usual!! Issac & Tamara were great, I hope we see her some more. Ruby has me intrigued, I'm looking forward to seeing her some more. What is with that knife?? Very interesting. The drano scene made me want to puke. LOL.
"Hello, bleeding here!" cracked me up.
All in all, Kripke, it was AWSOME!!!!
Kudo's to everyone for a fantastic start to what will be a fantastic season.

I LOVED it. Dean was awesome -- Jensen rocked it, as usual. But I'm with Mr. E-Quecky above, the best scene was WHAT'S IN THE BOOOOXXX!? Hee. It makes me laugh EVERY TIME.

I liked it, as a season opener it was a bit ordinary but other than that very good.

I didn't see much point to Tamara and Isaac, I thought their relationship was irritating and unconvincing, and the actress playing Tamara was terrible. The episode could have worked perfectly well without them imo.

Bobby was great and I liked how they kept Ruby mysterious and intruiging instead of fully introducing her right away.

WOOOO!!!! I LOVE that episode! Was it amazing? Absolutely not. Was I happy to have my boys back? HELL YES!!

As far as premieres go, it was excellent. Very entertaining, funny dialogue, brother moments, Bobby without his hat on...

As far as Supernatural premieres go, though, it was just okay. It's got nothing on IMToD. Also, I missed my angst. =[

About Ruby: so far, I really don't think she's that bad. I actually kind of like her. Although the "I'm the girl that just saved your ass" line was pretty cliche. Other than that, I think she has a lot of potential.

And next week? Yikes. Sam is to clowns as I am to creepy children. Provinence was by far the scariest episode for me solely because of the ten minutes the girl spent out of the painting. I had nightmares about that one for weeks. Definitely going to be watching next episode with the lights on.

This was a pretty good start to the season, I thought.
I'll admit, I wasn't thrilled at Dean's, over the top behaviour, I could use them to tone it down a notch, but it wouldn't have been realistic for him to be acting completely normal, after making such a deal. I'm sure it won't be that way forever. He probably have all sorts of different emotions, so i'm willing to ride that one out.

Bobby was great, as always. Nice to see him.

Tamara was ok. I wouldn't care if I saw her again, but I wouldn't be against the idea either.

As for Katie Cassidy's character. It's to early to form any real opinion.
I'm still in my wait and see mode.

I loved seeing Sam&Dean & Bobby again...and the Impala...hee

I really liked Tamara and wouldn't mind seeing her again. Not sure about Ruby - the 'mysterious blond chick' - yet but I DID NOT like it that her name was in the credits (right after Jensen's and before the 'guest stars' Jim and the rest).

Women need to remember this little tid bit...YOU CAN HAVE TOO MANY SHOES!

I didn't like it... man, that sucks.

That was the premiere of Season 3 of Supernatural? Seriously? That was it?
That was very disappointing specially when I think of 'In my Time of Dying'. I hardly know what to think, did Kripke write this clunky stuff? It's like he doesn't 'get' his own show! They'd better bring back the real Dean very quickly. Hope it gets better from here on.

I loved the season premiere :)

I'm so excited about this season now, because that episode definitely did not let me down. How awesome were those "Seven Deadly Sins"!? And Bobby's new CAR!? *squeals* I liked Tamara a lot, even though I usually hate the typical "strong female" type...and Isaac... *shudders* What a horrible way to go! Drain-X....

I'm also very curious about Tamara and Isaac's daughter, who was apparently killed by a demon. Was the YED coming for her and things went south? Or was it just a random act? I hope we find out.

Bobby was all kinds of awesome. It's kind of like having John around to guide the boys, though not quite as good. It actually took me a minute to recognize him in that suit, too. He just kicked so much ass.

I'm loving the brothers, as always. Dean being his usual goofy self, and Sam brooding. I did think Dean was pretty insensitive, but at the same time I feel like he's just trying to deal with it himself, and maybe even trying to lighten things up, for Sam's sake. I loved their final scene, where Dean admitted he was selfish. It's sad that selling his soul to the devil is "selfish" in Dean's book :(

And, finally, the new character. Katie Cassidy. "Ruby". Yikes. I'm trying my hardest to keep a positive outlook on her, and give her a good chance, but it's hard when she shows up and says something like: "I'm the girl that just saved your ass." But hey, at least Sam had just as good of a comeback!

I really would take her much more seriously if she wasn't wearing skinny jeans and 4-inch heels, or if she hadn't curled her hair before going out hunting. I'm not asking that she look like a total butch with a buzz-cut and BDUs, but c'mon, women can still look hot while being practical!

Overall, I give it a 8/10. Two points taken away because I would've liked to see the Seven Deadlies stretched out into at least one more ep, and another taken away because of Ruby. I may not hate her, but I sure as heck don't love her!

Still...keep it up, Supernatural!

Cool polls :)

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be I will admit to that. Did we really need to hear Dean like every 10 minutes talk about the deal. If it was a set up for Sam finding out in the end... bad set up.

One thing though that got me thinking, how was Dean able to shrug off Lusts influence? Of course the Dean!girl in me wants to say that he is just that doggone good a kisser that she lost her focus but is there something else ???

What saved this episode for me was the awesome that is Bobby. Oh and yah Dean getting smished in the front seat while Sam tried to stuff his tall self back there. Can we get the bloopers on that?? There had to be at least 10.

Ah, it's so good to have my boys back. *clings to them*

Dean was quite a jerk this episode. I wonder if he's TRYING to be a jerk so that it's easier for Sam to let him go, or if he's just being a jerk. But still. C'mon Dean. THAT WAS SO NOT ON, DUDE. Poor Sammy.

Jared did a great job with Sam this episode and we got to see some more expressions from him. I was very impressed. Jensen... got to make out with a bunch of girls. Good for him!

Cassidy needs to take a hike. On a mountain very very very far away from Vancouver. I hated Ruby, Dean is the only one allowed to save Sam's ass. And that knife? It felt like a Supernatural-meets-Buffy crossover episode.

Bobby rocked in this ep! And we saw him WITHOUT the trucker hat! I thought maybe it was an alternate universe, but no. Bobby just cleans up pretty well, and Jim Beaver is made of awesome.

Where was Ellen? I think I missed something there.

Tamara is really cool, I hope she doesn't die yet. I'd like to see more of her. Now there's a strong, well developed female character.

The horror was really scary- and I nearly puked at the Drano scene. For some reason, that really grossed me out.

The demon bar was so kickass. As my friend said, it was like: Oh no, a demon! Oh no, more demons! Holy crap, it's a bar full of demons! It makes sense that they'd have a meeting place; it's like a demon roadhouse. And the seven deadly sins in tangible forms was brilliant in my opinion. I actually want them to come back, I liked it so much. I thought that Pride was especially very well cast, the actor did a phenomenal job.

All in all, Kripke & the boys really delivered a kickass premiere.

Sam was amazing!!! His acting skills are the bests! Congrats Jared ^^

Hm, the two best scenes are missing:

Dean's:

"What's in the box?!" and

"Cause you'll be in hell. - Someone send this clown back."

That one really got me.

I love Supernatural, but it seemed a little different last night!!
Dean looked really different too and he wasn't acting like Dean normally would, and it seemed a lot more gorier then usual!! I mean it could have just been me but, it seemed a little off.
The whole Dean having one year to live is bad enough but he doesn't care!!-the boy is ticking me off!!
But it was not all bad, over all I thought it was a really good episode, great way to start of the season!!:)
Love u Supernatural!!:)
