Smallville: Brainiac and Bizarro Team Up!

Brainiac and Bizarro

Smallville is back from the long, loooooooong holiday hiatus, and it came back with a bang. Several bangs, actually. We think some of them worked better than others.

We loved the main plot, with Bizarro scheming with Brainiac to keep his place in Lana's heart -- and Clark's shoes. Poor Lana -- how could she not know that her time with Clark was too good to be true? And had there been a record run of cloudy weather in Kansas? We can't quite believe that Bizarro managed to stay out of the sun for a month without anyone noticing.

Keep reading -- there's more after the jump.

But Lana was so happy that she just didn't want to believe anything could be wrong -- even when Chloe told her Clark was acting weird. The scene where they talk about Clark almost hurt to watch -- Lana desperate to believe what she wanted, Chloe dealing with the subtle accusation that maybe she needs to back off from her Clark obsession. Ouch. And even more ouch, when Lana realized Chloe was right, and she'd been sleeping with the enemy -- and liking it!

We actually got a little excited during the showdown with blue kryptonite, where Lana looked like she was listening to Bizarro's argument. Maybe she really would decide she'd rather be happy with Bizarro than tortured with Clark! Alas, that was not to be -- she was just lulling Bizarro into a false sense of security. But even with Bizarro gone, we doubt it will be smooth sailing for Clark and Lana.

We were thrilled to see Braniac back again, and were really impressed with the death-warmed-over makeup they did on James Marsters. He looked like he was being filmed in black-and-white while everyone else was in color. Of course, Brainiac had his own agenda -- he needed to find his creator to figure out how to cure himself. We can't wait for him to get back to full strength!

We were less impressed with the Grant Gabriel plotline. We know Lex is evil, but would he really order Grant's execution because he wouldn't play by the rules Lex set? We hope Lex never had a puppy when he was a kid -- we figure the paper-training phase was pretty darn bloody.

Finally, we thought the angstapalooza montage at the end of the episode was a bit much. OK, we get it, Lex is tortured, but screaming up into the rain? If you knew you were going to feel that bad about it, how about you don't kill your created-from-scratch cloned brother? And the bits where Clark and Lana look out sadly at the rain, not speaking to each other.... It just seemed to go on forever.

What did you think? Was this episode worth the wait? Tell us about it in the comments!

I think Lois and Clark have more spark than Chloe and Clark. Lana has morphed into a female Lex and there always seems to be some sort of latent attraction between Lois and Clark. In the case of Chloe it is more like in your faze infatuation on steroids whilst Clark seems to see her as the lil sis the planet krypton never gave him....I think Lex has gone to unforeseen depths of evilism even for him

I've always hoped that CLark and Chloe would get together because they seem to have more of a connection then clark and lana had.

yeah, well. that ending was something. sad to see clark and lana looking like an old married couple in bed. triste.

glad to see they finally iced grant gabriel. can't stand michael cassidy. next: aaron ashmore. writers: can you write off jimmy olsen? as in, sending him on an indefinite photo shoot assignment.

FOR THE WRITERS.smallville is my favorite show on tv i have not miss an episode since season one...but this comment if for the writers i know that most superman ends with lois and clark...but i dont think smallville should do that its all about lana and clark so please dont seperate them...let this superman be different from the others not predictable...i think u should end it with lana telling clark he have to fulfill his destiny and she won't let him give that up and he ask her to come with him and she and him embark on his journey together and u end it with him becoming superman...please don't dissappoint us with this lois and clark story...this is not called lois and clark its called smallville...lana and clark was meant to be together since the beginning...thank you for reading...

oh you think les shooting grant was surprise look at the other he shot grant is what you called another "failed experiment" lex is someone is alays going to be evil.
