Another Smallville Defection?
Another day, another bit of unsettling Smallville news. TVGuide's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Allison Mack may not be coming back to the show for season 8. Apparently, Michael Rosenbaum's departure is spurring some heavy talks: "Allison's camp used Michael leaving as leverage in the negotiations with [Warner Bros.]," a Smallville source told Ausiello. The source added that Kristin Kreuk's decision to only return for a handful of episodes as Lana only strengthened Mack's bargaining position. "They need Chloe now more than ever -- and Allison's people know it."
The insider isn't optimistic that negotiations will turn out well. Does this mean we'll be saying goodbye to Chloe as well as Lex and, for most episodes, Lana? And will you tune in if so many major players are gone? Talk about it in the comments!

Season 8 should be the final season no matter what. I believe thet Chloe has a pivoting role to Clark fulfilling his destiny. It would be in the best interest of the series to keep Allison Mack on the line up. Michael's departure is bad enough. John Glover's departure was inevitable for the development of the Lex character. I can even live with Kristen's appearance in a few episodes as something to expect.
A message to the powers of Smallville: Keep Allison!!! Think of the syndication as well as DVD sales to be made if the series ends with these characters involved to the end.

After this season, I really have no interest in Chloe's character anymore. So I'll definitely be watching once again next season. If the show is on, then I'm watching it. Losing one, two, or even three characters isn't going to stop me from watching it. As Long as they have Clark and Lois I will be watching. Plain and simple.

Allison Mack aka (Chloe Sullivan) may not be the major character of this boring drama. But she is the rock that's keeping Clark going. I'm not happy that Lionel is dead, Lex is leaving now Chloe too!! Not that I'm not glad that Lana is gone, but i think it would be refreshing to see her once in a while; instead of the stuck-up Lois. No matter how sweet to make her be, she will never be Lois Lane to me.

I'm not watching next season, but Allison's leaving or staying has nothing to do with it. Without Michael Rosenbaum, I have no interest in the show anymore.
He and Glover were the only two with any acting skill whatsoever, and if I'm going to waste my time on a fluffy show, I'd prefer the actors to have a modicum of talent. It's a shame that after 7 years of faithful watching, I can't be stirred enough to tune in for the ending. I just don't enjoy Tom's portrayal of Clark enough to stick around. The only times I've enjoyed his acting have been when he's NOT Clark (Bizarro, or Kryptonite-altered, etc). Those are the only times I've seen any talent from Welling, so if he's left to carry the show alone (I'm discounting Kristin, as she won't be there very often, and Jimmy, since his character is meant to be nothing more than filler), there's no way I'm watching.

I can survive next season without Chloe.
And so can the show.
Some of us are here to see Clark's journey.
As far as storylines go, the show could cope really well.
Kara can be Clark's confidant when it comes to alien issues, especially as she can relate better. Plus, the show could use more family dynamic, not to mention it would give Kara a bigger role next season.
Lois can be there as a friend when he has normal human problems and needs someone to talk to.
Jimmy can also step up, and they can start Clark & Jimmy friendship.
And Clark can finally start doing research on his own.
If the only problem is really more money - I say let Allison leave, and throw that money at Michael at the end of the season, make him an offer he can't refuse, so we could have Lex in the finale.
I'd rather have Lex back for one episode, than Chloe for the full season. He's more important to the show.

If they can't keep Allison, they should stop this show before it becomes a shadow of what it was. Smallville had its bad moments as well as good ones but it doesn't deserve to die slowly and painfully like it's happening now!

i knew smallville should have kept it simple and just end in 7 seasons, but no, they had to push it. i just hope, the upcoming season is worth it. ultimately, i did like this season, but it did start off terrible. now michael is not full time, kristine as well, and chloe maybe out too.
if you guys (smallville) kept it simple for only 7 seasons we wouldn't have to worry about actors/characters leaving the show. we wouldn't have to worry about a risky season 8.
you guys better do well next season.
