Joy! Early Pickups for Some of Our Fave Shows!

Oh frabjuous day! The CW just sent out word that some of our very favorite shows would be back on our screens next season -- and we're in the mood to celebrate! The net announced that America's Next Top Model, 90210, Gossip Girl, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries are already on the books for Fall 2010. That sound you hear? That's a whole bunch of CW fans doing the happy dance. Glee!

Some of these early pickups are hardly a surprise. The Tyra Banks juggernaut is bringing fashion legend Andre Leon Talley to the judging table, and we're just dying to see how that will turn out. Will he be back for Cycles 15 and 16 next year? Likewise, Gossip Girl may be the most buzzed-about show out there. The season has stumbled a bit -- who knew a threesome could be so soporific? -- but we can't imagine the TV season with Chuck, Blair, Serena and the rest.

We're also not surprised -- thrilled, but not surprised -- that The Vampire Diaries is coming back. We're in love with the show, and we're not alone -- it draws the biggest audience of any show on the channel. Who could resist the blend of smart writing, spooky situations and great acting?

Then there's Supernatural, which, as you all well know, makes our little hearts go pitter-pat. We've debated whether the show should return, considering Kripke has talked about his five-year plan, and hey, how do you top the Apocalypse? We're really, really looking forward to seeing how they pull this off.

Finally, 90210 gets the nod, which, we have to admit, surprised us a bit. Not because we don't like the show -- we're loving the soapy storylines, the bitchery and back-stabbing, and the eeeeeevil elements that make out world go 'round. But we were a bit surprised to see it get an early pickup over a show like, for example, One Tree Hill or Melrose Place -- until we saw that it gets lots and lots of DVR love. Ratings for the show nearly double when you add in the TiVoing throngs.

And what if your favorite show isn't on this list? Well, don't panic -- these are early pickups. There's still plenty of time to hear good news about One Tree Hill and Melrose and Life Unexpected and Smallville... but we'll jsut have to wait and see.

What's your reaction to the early renewal news? Talk about it in the comments!

I am SO EXCITED for SUPERNATURAL to be back!!

Smallville was picked up for a 10th season and you guys at The CW Source didn't even cover it???? SHAME!

SUPERNATURAL SEASON SIX!!!!! WOOOOT!!! Best. News. EVER!!!
Good (but not surprising) news about Vampire Diaries -- love that show! Keeping my fingers crossed for Smallville season 10!!!

I used to be a die hard OTH fan, but this season is just not doing it for me. However, I am LOVING Life Unexpected!!! I really really hope it gets picked up so I can have something to look forward to watching on the CW again!

i really hope OTH gets cancelled so they can give Life Unexpected a 2nd season

i am excited for top model that can go 16 more seasons!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't care less about any of the CW shows unless it's Smallville.

Smallville deserves 10 season! Season 9 is best yet

I really really hope that ONE TREE HILL gets picked up for a season 8. I do not know what I would do without them. They really need to have another season to wrap everything up. Wish really hard so they pick up another season of OTH.

Definitely save One Tree Hill. The CW would be foolish to cancel one of their most stable shows. OTH has survived major character losses, day/time changes, a midseason pickup season 5, and basically ZERO promotion by the network compared to their other shows even though OTH is STILL beating them!!!

The CW turned Melrose Place around put hasn't given the new improved storylines and the presence of Heather Locklear a fair change to save it - I think a more informed decision can be made after a second season (not just 5 additional episodes!). I compare the ratings weekly - and they are picking up!

So happy for 90210, the style and tone of the was hugely improved in the second season and I can't wait to see it keep going strong.

ONE TREE HILL HAS TO BE PICKED UP. I can't imagine life without out.

I hope they pick up Smallville for next season. Any one who didn't watch last Friday's episode, should. It looks like they're finally bringing Chloe and Oliver together and if the last 3 minutes of last week's episode is any indication, they are going to be one hot couple!

Melrose definately will not be getting picked up for a 2nd season:(
I really hope OTH does though - I can't imagine life without it!! Life unexpected is turning out to be pretty good so I hope it continues to do welL.
Finally, YAY for 90210 - bring on senior year!!

It's great to see Supernatural return, although... surrounded by a bunch of teen dramas and wanna-be vampires as shows... Hmm, I think Supernatural outgrew the CW. It's definitely a more adult and stronger drama between family and the world. I just think that maybe the show should move onto abc or fox or something. It's the only thing I watch on the CW and I see all these sex-driven dramas.. Not that they are bad (I can't judge of course, cuz I'm just not into that kind of tv show), but it just doesn't look like Supernatural belongs here.

Supernatural, quite honestly, is the only show on here that I care about. So, uh, yeah. I'm pretty darn excited for it to return! I know they said they're wrapping up the Apocalypse thing, which is good. That'd be ridiculous if they dragged it on even more. But I'm sure they'll think of something epic and awesome to do in the sixth season. The writers care so much about the show and really don't want it to get craptastic, so I have faith that they'll work it out. I trust them to provide us loyal fans with a good show next year. AND I CAN'T WAIT!

In other news, I really hope that Life Unexpected does well this season, because I would love to see that come back as well. =]

Supernatural > Vampire Diaries

thrilled for supernatural but i hope season 6 will the be last. i dont want to go off of kripke's proposed plan. he's the mastermind behind it all and if he just made the show keep running just because - im not sure i'll continue to watch.

smallville went on way too long (and i dont want this to happen to supernatural) and a very small percentage started with loving smallville to still loving it. i loved its beginning seasons but now i think its basically just filler episodes 80% of the time.

meh to vampire diaries. can we really just get over this tweeny love people have in vampires? twilight is overrated, so is this.

I AM THRILLED THAT SUPERNATURAL IS COMING BACK!

I am surprised that Smallville wasn't picked up yet but I feel confidence that it will.

SMALLVILLE SEASON 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty surprised about the renewal of Supernatural and 90210. Well, I had some doubts about the end of Supernatural taking into consideration the show is one of the most loved shows on the CW. However, they must keep the show stable or yet better to worth a 6th season. About 90210 I didn't feel happy with the renewal of the show. This show is boring, nothing quite interesting happens, and I think a 3rd season should be the limit for it.

This is the first time I've heard you guys mention Smallville in forever. I thought maybe you had forgotten about it. I'd love to see you start commenting on their episodes again.

No OTH? That always makes me nervous.

I will collapse from the exhaustion of happy dancing over Supernatural's 6th Season renewal. Plus, it was confirmed that Kripke is returning too. If we *have* to be on Hellatus right now, this is a GREAT way to kick it off. :)
